L’arbre qu’avoid par long temps mort seché
Dans une nuict viendra à reverdir :
Cron roy malade, prince pied estaché,
Criant d’ennemis fera voille bondir.
This quatrain is often used to describe the eventual royal restoration under the future Henri. Those who claim this may be right. The first two lines, coming from a confirmed monarchist like Nostradamus, definitely seems to sing the praises of the restored monarchy. To his credit, this Cron king, whoever he is, spreads his sails in the face of fierce adversary. His son has a club foot.
Le monde proche du dernier periode,
Saturne encort tard sera de retour :
Translat empire devers nation Brodde :
L’oeil arraché Narbon par Autour.
Narbonne could refer to a leader of France or it could refer to the French nation. My first thoughts were the War of the Spanish Succession, but the first line of the quatrain prevents this. Brodde, which means dark, or black, could refer to Hitler and the Nazis, they made Germany a very dark souled nation. Still, it strongly indicates a dark colored nation, which would make it an African people. This last fast strongly indicates the Islamic wars of the future.
Tricast tiendra l’Annibalique ire,
Lyon par change sera mal consolé.
I cannot find my researches of any imperial leader who went to Avignon before they went to a desolated Paris. There have been several times when Paris was conquered, the Franco-Prussian War and the Second World War come to mind. The Napoléonic War of 1815 does not seem to count because the Parisians were actually quite enthusiastic about the exile of Napoléon– the hundred days was enough to remind them how tired they were of Napoléon. The Hannibalistic ire seems to indicate a force from Northern Africa, not one friendly to France.
Note on Translation: This is a somewhat different translation from the norm. Theophilius de Garenciéres gives the standard translation: For five hundred years no account shall be made, Of him who was the ornament of his time: Then on a sudden he shall give so great a light, That for that age he shall make them to be most contented. While somewhat different, the thrust of the standard translation and my translation is similar. I give this translation because so many people will think that this is the correct translation. However, the problem is that I cannot find where in the original French Nostradamus would say no account. Where is the ne?
I think that the “ornament of his time” was either Francis I or Henri II of France. Still, the quatrain cannot be understood until it is fulfilled.
La loy Moricque onverra deffaillir,
Apres un augre beaucoup plus seductive :
Poristhenes premier viendra faillir,
Par sons & langue une plus attractive.
The Law of Moore refers to Utopia, the work of Thomas Moore. In many ways, what he preached was an early version of Marxist Communism. The Dnieper river here stands for Mother Russia, which, then known as the Soviet Union, was the first Communist state to abandon communism. It embraced the opponent of communism, capitalism, through the supposed gifts that capital could bring. Capitalism is much more seductive and attractive.
This looks like an assassination that occurs on the 13th of February. Fossano is in North West Italy, so it has an Italian flavor to it. There is no Tarpeian Mountain, but there is the Tarpeian Rock, a steep cliff on the southern side of the Capitoline Hill, one of the seven hills of ancient Rome. Saturn is in Leo every 30 years for approximately 2½ years, with the next one scheduled around January 2035, so the 13th of February of that year can be considered. Of course, one must consider the Julean 13th of February, which is the more likely date. Of course, Saturn in Leo could refer to the murderer or the one murdered.
Multiple commentators have attributed this to the murder of the Duc de Berry, which occurred on the 13th of February in the year 1820. While imaginative, it is not accurate: Saturn was in the sign of Pisces, not the sign of Leo, when the Duc was killed. Also the murderer, Louis Pierre Louvel, was born on the 7th of October in the year 1783, Saturn was in the sign of Capricorn, so it cannot refer to the murderer either. Finally, Louis did not cut Berry’s throat, he simply stabbed him.
Lee McCann thought this refered to Adolph Hitler. He based it on the fact that when Hitler was born, Saturn was in the 13th degree of Leo. Only one problem, the February part cannot apply to him or his friend Benito Mussolini.
I suspect it is something else. I will have to leave it to the reader to figure out.
Nouveal loy terre neufue occuper,
Vers la Syrie, Judee & Palestine :
Le grand empire barbare corruer,
Avant que Phebés son siecle determine.
The great barbarian empire is the Turkish Empire. It is the barbarian empire because of its control over the Barbary Coast where the Barbary Pirates raided southern Europe for years. At the end of the First World War, the French assumed control of greater Syria (modern day Syria and Phohencia) while the British assumed control of Canaan (modern day Israel) Egypt and Jordan. Canaan was naturally divided into ancient Judea and Palestine, the ancient lands of the Jews and the ancient lands of the Philistines, though both Jews and Palestinians claimed that the name of Judea or Palestine really belonged to all of the land. The new law was the European law that replaced the old Turkish law. The last line indicates that as of that time we were still in the cycle of the moon.
Felipe IV of Spain was also Filipe III of Portugal. This lasted until December 1640, when Portugal revolted. Under João IV, known today as The Restorer, Portugal began to fight a long war that was not concluded until after João had died.
The war was a long, stagnant war with constant flareups. It was long because of the successful and strong defensive positions of both sides. Though there were a few military campaigns, they were all ultimately unsuccessful. However the defensive strengths favored Portugal, they simply had to keep existing in order to win. Spain, opposed to Portuguese independence, long quarelled with João and his successor over this.
The bloodiness of the war resulted from the main phase of the war. Known as the Attrocities, it was a period full of border raids and sharp assaults. The Spanish kept punishing the Portuguese as rebels while the Portuguese kept repaying old scores. Blood kept flowing in ever increasing numbers. But the strong defensive positions of both sides prevented any major inroads. This ironically protected Portugal, as if they could have successfully attacked, Spain, the stronger nation, would have won.
The war was ultimately draining to the Spanish. After a final, failed campaign to bring the Portuguese to heal, Felipe was forced to sue for peace and recognized Portuguese independence under João’s successor, Afonso IV.
Alleins I found in Southern France. I found a Durance in Provence, though I suspect it is a relatively new establishment. I was not able to find anything like Varneigne or Mount Lebron. That said, the position of Alleins leads me to suspect that this was fulfilled by the Second World War. The positioning of it does seem to be in line with Operation Dragoon, the 1944 invasion of Southern France.
Entre Gaulois le dernier honnoré,
D’homme ennemi sera victorieux :
That this refers to Charles De Gaulle is beyond a doubt. Not only is the word Gaulois the ancient word for the ancient Gauls, it is also a twist on De Gaulle’s name. He was the least honored by the French military during the war. Before the war, his work on tank warfare was rejected by his own people even though it was embraced by Guderian and Hitler. After France collapsed but before it surrendered, De Gaulle fled on a British aircraft to Britain where he lead the Free French; as a result the French military rejected him as a deserter. When the United Nations attacked North Africa, he was still rejected by the French leadership who listened to Admiral Darlan. It was not until 1944 when he finally came into his own and was accepted by the French people, almost hysterically. He was the political leadership of France as well as the spiritual head of the French forces opposing the Axis when Hitler either committed suicide or was suicided.
