Quatrains 71 - 80

Quatrain 71

Quand on viendra le grand Roy parenter
Avant qu'il ait du tout l'ame rendue :
Celuy qui moins le viendra lamenrer,
Par Lyons, aigles, croix couronne venduë.

When they will come the great King's relatives
Before it ends the soul has returned,
Those who mourn will come to lament,
By Lyons, eagles, cross, the crown sold out.

Wedding Ceremonies celebrating the peace of Cateau-Cambrésis

After the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis was signed, three royal weddings occurred. The Dauphin, the future Francis II, married the Scottish queen, Mary, whose ensign was the Scottish Lion. Felipe II of Spain was the Spanish Eagle, he married Henri’s daughter, Elizabeth. The cross was represented by Emmanuel Philibert, Duca di Savoia, who married Henri’s sister, Princess Margaret of France, Duchesse de Berry. Through these acts, King Henri gained relatives and peace with Savoy and Spain, peace that would be a blessing during the future Religious Wars. But Henri had to give wedding gifts. Mary Stuart, now Dauphiness, got the city of Saint Quentin as a wedding gift. The others gained rather expensive and kingly gifts as well. After Henri died, people would bitterly complain that the gifts were a sell out of French royal lands, though since Mary Stuart was now married to the new king Francis II, it would at least stay in the family.

To celebrate the weddings, Henri ordered a royal tournament. During this tournament, his fatal joust with the Earl of Montgomery occurred. Henri lingered for a while, then died. Nostradamus mentions this with his reference to the soul having returned.

Quatrain 72

Par fureur faincte d’emotion divine,
Sera le femme du grant fort violee :
Iuges voulant damner telle doctrine,
Victime au peuple ignorant imolee.

Through fury feigning divine emotion,
The wife of the great one will be violated:
The judges wishing to condemn such a doctrine,
Victim to the people an ignorant sacrifice.

Marie Antoinette

The great one in this case is Louis XVI of France. His wife was Marie Antoinette. The violation was the trial she was forced to undergo. The judges wanted to condemn the doctrine of monarchy, so charged her with, among other false charges, sending several million livres of treasury money to Austria, plotting to kill the duc d'Orléans, incest with her son, declaring her son to be the new king of France and orchestrating the massacre of the Swiss Guards in 1792 (none of which she did).

The trial was a sham. Given less than a day to prepare, she was unable to defend herself against the crimes. The Committee of Public Safety, under the leadership of Robespierre, had already decided her fate. Still, when she was accused of incest with her son, she protested so vehemently that many woman opposed to her found themselves sympathizing with her. But the Committee of Public Safety demanded her head, so the judges continued the trial to its ordained conclusion. Two days later, she was found guilty and summarily guillotined, a sacrifice given to the people of France by the Committee of Public Safety.

Quatrain 73

En cité grande un moyne & artisan,
Pres de la porte logés & aux murailles :
Contre Modene secret, cave disant,
Trahis pour faire souz couleut d’espousailles.

In a great city a monk and craftsman
Dwelling near the gate and the walls:
Against Modena secret underground sayings,
Betrayed for acting under the cover of marriage.

Ambiguous

Modena places this in the northern part of Italy. It could refer to the “marriage” of Hitler and Mussolini, after Mussolini was rescued by Hitler, but then who is the Monk and Craftsman? I must leave this to the reader to decipher.

Quatrain 74

La dechassee au regne tournera,
Ses ennemis trouuez des conjurez :
Plus que jamais son temps triomphera,
Trois & septante à mort trop asseurez.

The chassed will return to the realm,
The enemies found to be conspirators:
More than ever its time will triumph,
Three and seventy to death very sure.

Soviet Communism

The October Revolution occurred on October 25th, 1917 on the Julian Calender. By the Gregorian Calendar which the rest of the world used, this was November 7, 1917. The chassed was Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, who went under the pseudonym Lenin. He and his comrades were conspirators who first deposed the Russian Imperial government, then deposed the Republican government which followed. The time of Communism was triumphant. But seventy three years, seven months later, the people of the Soviet Union resoundly rejected Communism in the July elections of 1991, the first free elections in over seventy three years.

Quatrain 75

Le grand pilot par Roy sera mandé,
Laisser la classe à plus hault lieu attaindre
Sept ans apres sera contrebandé,
Barbare armee viendra Venise craindre.

The great pilot by the King will be made,
Leaves the fleet the higher place attained for
Seven years later will be contraband,
Venice fears the barbarian army.

Admiral Gaspard de Coligny / Venetian fear of Turks

Gaspard de Coligny was given several appointments as he advanced in his career. He reached the pinnacle in 1562 when he was appointed Admiral of the French Fleet. Seven years later, in 1569, he announced his adherence to the Calvinist principles. From that date onward, he was a foremost proponent of religious liberty for the Calvinists, a position that, while acceptable to the Queen Mother, Catherine de Medici, was not acceptable by the very Catholic House of Lorraine.

The last line refers to the pressure the Turks were putting on Venice prior to the Battle of Lepanto.

Two events, two places, one time.

Quatrain 76

La cité antique d’antinotee forge,
Plus ne pouvant le tyran supporter :
Le manchet fainct au temple couper gorge,
Le siens le peuple à mort viendra bouter.

The ancient city founded by Antenor,
No longer able to support the tyrant:
The fake haft in the temple cuts the throat,
The people comes to put his followers to death.

Ambiguous

The city founded by Antenor is Padua. According to the Aeneid, Antenor, a prince of Troy and a counselor to King Priam, fled the sack of Troy and managed to build Patavium the romanized name of modern Padua. This is the key to understanding the location of the quatrain.

The quatrain is self-descriptive. The only thing is, I can not find any reference of this being fulfilled. It is true that there is much information not available to me, but I would think that the overthrow of a tyrant by the people of Padua would be noteworthy. The closest I can find is the revolution of 1848 which saw a student revolt in Padua became a general uprising against the hated Austrians, but the revolt did not seem to throw off the Austrians. Therefore, it is likely in reference to the future.

Quatrain 77

Par la victoire du deceu fraudulente,
Deux classes vne, la reuolte Germanie,
Le chef meurtry & son fils dans la tente,
Florence, Imole pourchassez dans Romaine.

Through the victory the fraudulent are deceived,
Two fleets one, German revolt:
The chief murdered and his son in the tent,
Florence, Imola hunt in Roman.

Ambiguous

I would have tied this to Hitler and the Second World War, but Hitler had no son.

It could refer to Benito Mussolini. His first son, Benito Albino Mussolini, was murdered, likely under Mussolini’s ordered, in an asylum in Mombello during August 1942 which makes this the most likely fulfillment. Of his other sons, Vittorio lived a long life in film, Bruno was killed as a test pilot and Romano, the youngest, was a jazz star so they are unlikely to be part of this quatrain.

However, there are some details that I cannot determine, so I must leave this to the reader to figure out.

Quatrain 78

Crier victoire du grand Selin croissant,
Par les Romains fera l’Aigle clamé,
Ticcin, Milan, & Gennes n’y consent,
Puis par eux mesmes Basil grand reclamé.

The great crescent Selin cries victory,
The Eagle is claimed by the Romans,
Pavia, Milan and Genoa will not consent,
Then by themselves the great Basil will be re-proclaimed.

Future

The great crescent Selin places this in the future. This is the earlier days of the great Islamic invasion. The great crescent Selin most likely refers to the future leader. He is proclaiming victory. The Italian leadership however embraces the eagle, most likely the American Eagle, for their defense. However, this is not a popular decision, as several cities in northern Italy will oppose it. Just what the last line is must wait the fulfillment of the quatrain.

Quatrain 79

Pres du Tesin les habitans de Loyre,
Garonne & Saonne, Sienne, Tain & Gironde :
Outre les monts dresseront promontoire,
Confoict donné Pau granci, submergé onde.

Near the Ticino the inhabitants of the Loire,
Garonne, Saône, Seine, Tain and Gironde:
Beyond the mountains will erect a promotory,
Conflict given Po enlarged submerged in the wave.

Ambiguous

Tecin could refer to the town of Tesin in the Chech Republic, but I doubt it. Most likely it refers to what most commentators think it is, myself included, the Ticino river, which starts in Switzerland and ends up becoming a tributary of the Po river system. All of the other rivers mentioned are in France.

Quatrain 80

De Fez le regne paruiendra à ceux d'Europe,
Feu leur cité & l'anne tranchera.
Le grand d'Asie terre & mer à grand troupe,
Que bleux, peres, croix, à mort dechassera.

From Fez the realm will reach those of Europe,
Their city ablaze and the blade will cut:
The great one of Asia by land and sea with great troop,
That blues, friars, the cross to death will be pursued.

Future

The city of Fez is located on the coast of the North African nation of Monaco. The great one of Asia must be the Anti-Christ. This occurs after those quatrains which deals with his conquest of Africa.
