La Roy rusé entendra ses embusches,
De trois quartiers ennemis assaillir
Un nombre estrange larmes de coqueluches,
Viendra Lemprin du traducteur faillir.
This is a straightforward enough of a quatrain, if one can figure out the event it is talking about. Just what or who Lemprin is what must be determined before this quatrain can be understood. It is a nonsensical word, therefore it is almost certainly an anagram.
Par le deluge & pestilence forte,
La cité grande de long temps assiegee,
La sentinelle & garde de main morte,
Subite prinse, mais de nul oultragee.
Almost certainly, this refers to the future, however, there are enough wars in the past where this could have happened to prevent me from saying that it will be the future. For instance, Paris in the First World War endured a flood, and there was a flu epidemic in 1915. Not the great pandemic of 1918, but still bad. The key is the sentry and lookout; they are captured, an event which angers everyone.
Sol vingt de Taurus si fort terre trembler,
Le grand theatre rempli ruinera,
L’air, ciel & terre obscurcir & troubler,
Lors l’infidelle Dieu & sainctz voguera.
The sun reaches twenty degrees of Taurus approximately the tenth of May, give or take a day. When the Muslims are ready to sail in their attack, somewhere there will be an earthquake and a theater, full of people, will be ruined.
Roy expose par faira L’hecatombe,
Apres avoir trouvé son origine,
Torrent ouvrir de marbre & plomb la tombe
D’un grand Romain d’enseigne Medusine.
The sign of Medusa, a sign of fierce protection, is the head of Medusa, a woman’s head with snakes as hair. The hecatomb was a special sacrifice to the ancient Greek gods Apollo, Athena and Hera, it involved the slaughter of one hundred cattle.
Passer Guienne, Languedoc & le Rosne,
D’Agen tenens de Marmande & La Roole,
D’ouvrir par foy par roy Phocé tiendra son trosne
Conflict aupres saint Pol de Manseole.
Note on Translation: The third line has a second translation: To open by creed the King of Marseilles will hold the throne.
All of the places listed on the first two lines are in the southern part of France. If Phoce in line 3 refers to Marseilles, as it likely does, then it too is in southern France. The key is Saint Paul de Manseole, which I cannot find. Because it is not a city, town or village, it is most likely a church.
Du bourg Lareyne parviédront droit à Chartres
Et feront pres du pont Authoni panse,
Sept pour la paix cautelleux comme mattres
Feront entrée d’armee à Paris clause.
Bourg Lareyne is obviously Bourg-la-Reine, a suburb of Paris situated a few miles from the city. When Henri IV was trying to capture the city of Paris, it is likely he had control of this commune. After he failed and was forced to retreat and move about, he realized the truth of the words his predecessor, Henri III had spoken to him: “Become a Catholic. France will never accept a Protestant on the throne.” Henri lost no time, asked for and obtained a gathering of Catholics who taught him at length the principles of Catholicism, converted to Catholicism and was crowned in Chartres, because Reims was in the hands of his enemies the Catholic League.
The seven were some of the notables of Paris. I know of two from the Parliament de Ile-de-France (Parliament of Paris), Langlois and La Maistre. I have heard that the Duc de Nemours was involved as well. Who the other four are, I have no idea. But they welcomed Henri into the capital. For the sake of peace, they were willing to die at the hands of the Catholic League in order to try to end the religious wars, provided Henri was Catholic. They succeeded. Henri marched into the city. There was some grumbling, there was also some rejoicing, but mostly there was a sense of relief.
Par la forest du Touphon essartee,
Par hermitaige sera posé le temple,
Le duc d’Estampes par sa ruse inventee,
Du mont Lehori prelat donra exemple.
Note on original: Essartee in line 1 is obviously a word modified to rhyme with inventee of line 3. The key is to find what the true original is. I selected essarté, which literally means to tear off the undergrowth for cultivation. The translation reflects this meaning.
Étampes is located southwest of Paris. Touphon, however, I cannot find. It is likely the name of a French forest. There is no Mount Lehori. I suspect it is a phonetic use of a name, but nothing comes to mind. Because of this last, I am convinced this refers to the future.
Calais, Arras secours à Theroanne,
Paix & semblant simulera lesoutte,
Soulde d’Alabrox descendre par Roane
Destornay peuple qui deffera la routte.
Calais and Arras are in Northeastern France. Théroanne is a village between the two. Roanne is in Eastern France. The closest I can find to Allabrox was Albox, which if true would refer to Spain. Trouble is, during the Religious Wars, the Spanish did not go all the way to Roanne. Also, I know of no other war where the Spanish penetrated deeply into French territory. Consequently, Allabrox is an undefined name or anagram and this quatrain refers to the future.
Sept ans sera Philip, fortune prospere,
Rabaissera des Arabes l’effaict,
Puis son mydi perplex rebors affaire
Jeusne ognyon abysmera son fort.
The name of Philip is the key to the quatrain. There have been several important Philips who ruled France, the most recent two being Louis Philippe, the bourgeois king, and Philippe Pétain, the collaborationist who misruled France in the early 1940’s. However, the really powerful Philips were located in Spain under the Spanish version of Felipe.
Felipe II of Spain is the one who this must refer to. During his reign, he opposed the policies of the Ottomans, the French, the Dutch and the British. Against the Ottomans he was fairly successful, his policies of opposing the Ottoman fleet by force met with several disasters but ultimately reaped great rewards at the Battle of Lepanto which destroyed the Ottoman fleet and drowned the skilled sailors that the Ottomans relied upon. It’s height was reached in 1573 with the Spanish capture of Tunis. Though the Turks rebuilt their fleet, the loss of their skilled seamen was a decisive factor.
The untoward business was his intervention into French policies. After Henri III died, the legitimate king was Henri IV. Felipe opposed this, siding openly with the Catholic League of France that tried to impose a Catholic onto the French throne. He provided the Catholic League with funds and even sent his great general, Alessandro Farnese, to relieve Paris and the League. The result was the conversion of Henry IV to Catholicism and the unification of France against Spain in a war that would continue until 1598. Ognyon, a twist on Ogmios, the celtic deity of communication, is here a reference to Henri IV.
Un capitaine de la grand Germanie,
Se viendra tendre par simulé secours
Un Roy de roys ayde de Pannonie,
Que sa revolte fera de sang grand cours.
The Great Captain and the King of Kings of this quatrain is Adolf Hitler. He was the main force behind the Second World War and he had the same unlimited power as the ancient Shaw of Persia, the original King of kings. One of Hitler’s favorite tactics was to give simulated help, which was merely a propaganda cover for an actual conquest.
The time is 1942. The French in Vichy had for a few years been responsible for their own affairs, though the Germans were keeping a close eye on them. Now the situation was critical. The Allied forces had launched Operation Torch, the landings of North Africa. Aid was offered to the French. Admiral François Darlan, the Ministre de Marin, accepted limited aid focused on Allied shipping. But Hitler saw that Frenchmen were starting to turn towards the Allies. He launched Fall Anton, the occupation of Vichy France and Corsica, as an apparent means to aid the French against the Allied landings. As a result of this, the French government became a complete puppet of Germany and all French Jews in the former unoccupied territory were rounded up and herded towards the Extermination Camps in Germany and Poland, where many went up the chimneys. (Beforehand Vichy had willingly deported Non-French Jews and other aliens who were not French, at least in the Vichy territory.) The ultra right wing Service d'ordre légionnaire was transformed into the dread Milice which willingly sided with Hitler in all things. That said, the act, which obviously occurred without the knowledge or agreement of Marshal Pétain, freed Darlan to act, after he received a secret communicade from Pétain. In the name of Marshal Pétain, the official leader of Vichy, he gave the Allies all the French forces in North Africa.
