Quatrains 91 - 100

Quatrain 91

Frymy les champs des Rodanes entrees
Ou les croysez seront presque unis,
Les deux brassieres en Pisces rencontrees
Et un grand nombre par deluge punis.

Bragging the fields of Rodanes entered
When the crossed will be almost joined,
The two brassy ones meeting in Pisces
And a great number punished by the flood.

Ambiguous

The word brassieres could be brassy ones, armed ones, armed (referring to one’s arms), etc. It could have multiple meanings, something Nostradamus sometimes tried to do with his economy of words. But the meeting in Pisces, the fishes, indicates an astrological configuration known as a conjunction. Mars is obviously one of the two planets. While I cannot be certain, I suspect Venus is the other planet involved, though arguments could be made for the Sun and for Saturn.

The Rodanes could refer to the people of Rodes.

Beyond this, I have no clues.

Quatrain 92

Loin hors du regne mis en hazard voiage
Grand ost duyra pour soi l’occupera,
Le roy tiendra les siens captif ostrage
A son retour tout pays pillera.

Far out of the reign put in hazardous travels
Great army lead for one will occupy it,
The king will hold his hostages captive
In his return the country will be ransacked.

Napoléon Bonaparte

Though several kings came close, including Karl XII of Sweden, it was Napoléon Bonaparte who fulfilled this quatrain.

The first line refers to the hazardous invasion of Russia in 1812. His army moved into Russia and actually succeeded in occupying Moscow for a while. The hostages refer to the various nations of Europe who were de facto prisoners of Bonaparte. Of course, with the collapse of the effort in Russia and the rise of opposition in France, Napoléon had to flee Russia and return to France, where he not only put down the rebellion, he also ransacked the country and raised a new army of over 400,000 men.

Quatrain 93

Sept moys sans plus obtiendra prelature
Par son deces grand seisme fera naistre :
Sept moys tiendra un autre la preture
Pres de Venise paix union renaistre.

Seven months without more obtains the prelature
By his death a great schism born:
Seven months shall another hold the justice
Near Venice peace and union are reborn.

Ambiguous

As far as I know, the closest this came to being fulfilled occurred during the brief life of the Repubblica di San Marco, but I cannot make the events and the quatrain agree in details. It is ceertainly possible that Nostradamus was in error on a few details, but it is equally possible that this refers to a future event.

Quatrain 94

Devant le lac ou plus cher fut getté
De sept mois, & son host desconfit
Seront Hyspans par Albannois gastez
Par delay perte en donnant le conflict.

In front of the lake where most deer are thrown
Of seven months, and his host overthrown
The Spanish by the Albanians will be devastated,
By delay loss in giving the conflict.

Ambiguous

I must leave this to the reader to interpret.

Quatrain 95

Le seducteur sera mis en la fosse,
Et estaché jusques à quelque temps,
Le clerc uny les chef avec sa crosse
Pycante droite attraira les contens.

The seducer will be put into the pit,
And for some time will be bound fast,
The clerk unites the chief with the cross
Pricking upright will draw the contented.

Future

The first two lines are an obvious reference to Christian mythology and the future binding of Satan, the great seducer, in the pit. Obviously, it refers to the times just after the war of the Anti-Christ. The last two lines refer to the general happiness, as well as the union between religious and civil authority, something the Catholic Church greatly desires. Of course, there are other indications that Catholicism will die soon after the war, so how this quatrain is fulfilled has yet to be understood. We can currently know only the relative timing of the quatrain, not its exact fulfillment.

Quatrain 96

La synagogue sterile sans nul fruit
Sera receu entre les infideles
De Babylon la fille du porsuit
Misere & triste lui trenchera les aisles.

The synagogue sterile without no fruit
Will be received by the infidels,
Of Babylon the girl of the pursuit
Miserable and dejected they clip her wings.

Léon Blum

Note: McCain in his book on Nostradamus had only one line about this quatrain: Léon Blum’s tenure in office. An investigation indicated he was correct.

Léon Blum was a Jew who became the first Jewish leader of France. He was the leader of the socialist/marxist left in French politics, but was unable to instigate the communism he so fervently desired. As such, though he and his party, the Popular Front, passed some serious legislation, the wings of the Front were severely clipped. For instance, when workers occupied the factories in anticipation of a Communist style revolution, Blum, fearing the intervention of the army, got the workers to accept a pay raise and go back to work.

To understand the quatrain, it must be understood that Babylon was the banking capital of the old world; the reference here it stands for the bourgeois bankers, the monetary and financial power behind the twentieth century. Because they pursue the principles of wealth, they are infidels who reject the teachings of Christianity, which traditionally opposed such a stand. In fact, only Calvinism made the pursuit of wealth a tenant of Christianity, and that occurred more by accident than by design – John Calvin certainly did not make it a tenant of his teaching, he rejected it outright. The girl is the synagogue because Léon Blum was a Jew, sterile because not only was Blum unable to achieve anything, it was supporting a principle that Nostradamus slammed in his Epistle to Henri. Read up on the part about the Babylon in the Epistle to understand.

Quatrain 97

A fin du VAR changer le pompotans,
Pres du rivage les trois beaux enfants naistre.
Ruine ay peuple par aage competans.
Regne ay pays changer plus voir croistre.

At the end of the VAR the pompotans change;
Near the shore three beautiful children are born.
Ruin to the people by competent age,
Kingdom in the country grows and changes more.

Ambiguous

While the children of line 2 could refer to actual children, I suspect it actually refers to nations or governments. In his epistle, Nostradamus claims that the Great Dame gave birth to three sons and a daughter; these prove to be not people, but governments. The Committee of Public Safety of Robespierre, the Directorate of five leaders, and the Consulate/Empire of Napoléon were the sons. The daughter was the restored monarchy of Louis XVIII to Louis Felipee.

Quatrain 98

Des gens d'eglise sang fera espandu,
Comme de l'eau eu si grand abondance :
Et d'un long temps ne sera restranche
Ve, ve au clerc ruine & doleance.

Of the church men the blood will be poured
As water in great abundance;
For a long time it will not be restrained,
Woe, woe, for the clergy ruin and grief.

Future/Fulfilled?

This quatrain obviously refers to a disaster that will happen to the Catholic Church. Churchmen will be murdered in great numbers.

While this is likely the future, it is possible it was fulfilled during the French Revolution. It is certain that the priests were not held in high respect during the revolution, many were killed and the treasure of their churches was confiscated.

Quatrain 99

Par la puissance des trois rois tempoulz,
En autre lieu sera mis le saint siege :
Où la substance & de l'esprit corporel,
Sera remis & receu pour vrai siege.

Through the power of three temporal kings,
The sacred seat will be put in another place,
Where the substance of the body and the spirit
Will be delayed and received as the true seat.

Future Events

Not since before Nostradamus has the Holy See (translation from the latin, The Holy Seat), the headquarters of the papacy been moved outside of Rome. This therefore refers to the future.

From the quatrain, it seems that Nostradamus is here referring to the effective end of Catholicism. The papacy will cease to be the true seat of Catholic power and the substance of the teachings of Jesus will become the true power.

Quatrain 100

Pour l’abondance de larme respandue
Du hault en bas par le bas au plus hault
Trop grande foy par jeu vie perdue,
De soif mourir par habondant deffault.

For the abundance of the tears spread
From the heights to the depths and from the depths to the very heights
The great faith by a game loses life,
To die of thirst through a great defect.

Future

The second line seems to time the quatrain. One of the things that seems to happen will be the downfall of the great and the emergence of the humble as leaders of the world. If true, this places this quatrain in the future.
